How to stop the Hackers?
Today we see that the crackers and viruses have got into Internet through the worldwide use of Internet services. Recent studies show that among the countries of the world, the hackers are using the Internet services in India the most. It has been found that one in every 28 have been virus infected. The Storm worm, which attacks through the U Tube video, has been the latest one. This new virus has affected 1.8 million computers worldwide.
The truth is that majority of the users in India are not trying to block this virus. Any user is not interested to find either the source of this virus or the reason for its attack. If at all they try, they may not know how to respond to it.
Crackers are perverted minded people who try to steal, distort, attack or add unwanted things to the email ids, web sites and other private files of other people. Crackers may not have a reason to do these things. They are people who sit in front of a computer for long hours, distorting the web sites of known people or crack the password for Internet banking accounts or the FTP username and some how try to introduce a virus into the system to destroy files or distort them or add unwanted items. Such crackers are to be feared.
Recently we read in newspaper about the cracking of the Hon’ Chief Minister of Kerala’s web site owned by the Govt of Kerala. If even a Chief Minister is not spared, then how can we ensure safety for a common man’s web site?
We should think about it. The crackers have grown beyond skies. They can attack any time. Today if a Chief Minister’s web site is hacked tomorrow it may be the President’s or Prime minister’s in our country or any other country. If we are careful, we may be able to stop them.
These crackers or their agents may be cracking our passwords or FTP usernames by hiding at some remote corner of this world. You may doubt how its possible to steal our secret password and FTP user name. The reason for this is the latest electronic technology, by placing a sophisticated electronic gadget inside the computer system that we use. The crackers can also come disguised in Internet. We can stop their activities to an extend by being careful. It is better to do Internet services through mobile phones or do it in protected environments, which are not accessible to crackers. Let us hope for a better worldwide Internet service without virus.
